Artist Spotlight - Kia Johns

𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨?

Hi, I’m Kia - I’m a watercolor and graphic artist from juneau Alaska. My style incorporates natural motifs, geometric designs, and fine detail work.

I’m inspired by my outdoor passions - fishing, hiking, skiing, whale-watching and mountain top camping. I love incorporating a little bit of whimsical magic into my watercolors, inspired by snowy sunsets in the backcountry, cabin adventures and living around beautiful mountains.

My favorite moment in the process is when I add the little details and see a piece finally come to life in front of my eyes. Sometimes I start with a fully thought out plan, and other times, I wing it -  watching those unplanned ideas take form are definitely some of my favorite moments.

Make a lot of work. Fill as many sketchbooks as you can. Let you mind wander and be easy on yourself. You never know when a sketch or idea can inform a later piece or take you in a whole new direction!

Ha! Let me know when you figure that out, will you? No, but seriously, I’m working on a few design projects for a couple businesses in Southeast and watercolor painting as much as I can. I’m hoping to be able to have a show of my watercolor works this spring or summer!
