This necklace featuring a crescent pendant is made with Mokume Gane: a process of metalworking achieved by fusing several layers of differently colored precious metals together. Afterwards, the metal is chiseled and then flattened, giving each piece its own unique pattern and design.
The pendant is made from shakudo, shibuichi, and silver.
18in sterling silver chain.

ELM Designs is a collaboration between jewelry artists Lara McGlinchy and Mariah Henderson. Lara and Mariah met while pursuing their Fine Art degrees at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and connected over a shared fascination with Mokume Gane. With backgrounds in both painting and metalsmithing, their work demonstrates the aesthetics found in line, shape, color, and pattern. This blended experience of working in both 2D and 3D aids the artists in the continuous development of their craft. Lara and Mariah challenge themselves to produce high quality, modern, and minimalist designs, while incorporating the ancient metalsmithing technique of Mokume Gane into their jewelry line. Every piece of jewelry is entirely crafted by hand in their studio in Fairbanks, Alaska.
ELM Designs takes much of their inspiration from nature, using elements from their surroundings to directly influence their work. This influencial aspect is important to ELM Designs, and they strive to use eco-friendly materials, from recycled packaging and displays, to conflict free, ethically sourced diamonds.
