Having worked alongside coastal Alaskan brown bears for the past 7 years, I understand their behaviors and personalities intimately. In reality, they are actually quite non-confrontational. I believe mother bears, in particular, are one of the best representations of love, and an iconic symbol of Alaska. The first photo (\"Bear Family\") depicts a mother brown bear in Lake Clark National Park flanked by her two yearling cubs as they drink from a river. The second photo (\"Bear Gaze\") is a portrait of a brown bear in Katmai National Park and her very blonde yearling daughter, mimicking her mother's every move. I have hiked out and touched this beauty almost every year of my life. I have seen first hand the effects of climate change and how fast glaciers are receding. This photo was taken on my most recent hike there with a friend of mine. This was captured inside of a crevasse, I was wearing chacos and walking through ice cold water to capture this. Two weeks later my friend and I returned to this same place and the entire area was gone. It melted and disappeared. I believe this image represents a type of beauty that is fleeting. You can only see it for a brief moment and once it’s gone it’s gone forever.
